I’ll give another live workshop on Search Engine Optimization on Tuesday. Please check this link:
http://www.learncentral.org/event/70272
This is an experimental workshop to help people to get a better ranking in search engines. I am not an SEO specialist but I can share some of the “common sense” tips and tricks to get your web site ranked better on Google and other search engines.
Syllabus:
This is a live workshop, that means that YOU bring your website. If you have a web site or a blog, you can showcase it here in class and we will all try to find out how you can improve your site to increase your ranking for the search engines. This will include but not limited to these topics:
- Page title
- Page URL
- Page header
- Page content
- Backlinks
- Page Rank
Prerequisites:
To participate in this class you need to have your own web site or weblog (blog) either on your own domain or on a public service like blogger.com, wordpress.com or any other site that enables you to publish your own content. To get the most out of this class, you have to share the URL of your web site in class, so that we can all find out how to improve it to get a better page rank.
If you don’t own a web site yet, but you are interested in having one in the future, you are welcome to come and listen or contribute your own ideas and tips.
On Monday I’ll give a live workshop on Google Calendar. Some people asked me to share my knowledge about how to set up and use this useful Web 2.0 tool from Google, so here it is:
For example, you will learn how to embed your own calendar in your blog/website like this:
Next Friday I’ll give another live class on Gimp. Please make sure you register early, since I will delete the class one hour before starting time if there are not students registered.
Here is the link to the class.
Please log in to eduFire to see the correct time in your own time zone.
About Class
Gimp can be used to isolate an object from the background. There are several methods to do this, we will use the method that all professional designers prefer: Using the path tool to isolate the shape of the object. We will then select the space around the object and remove it, so that the object is available without any distracting background.
Syllabus
- loading a photo from your desktop
- using the path tool to define the shape of our object
- selecting the object according to the defined path
- inverting the selection to remove the background
- adding transparency to the picture
- removing the background to make it transparent
Prerequisites
Gimp must be installed and running. First experience with Gimp is necessary to come to this workshop. If you don’t have this experience, use the tutorial video in the Moodle class at http://www.rent-a-tutor.com/moodle/ or come to my free class “Gimp installation and first steps”.
Next Thursday I’ll give a free WizIQ class on how to find and install useful add-ons for the popular web browser Firefox. Some of them can really improve your security and productivity.
Please come in time to get the most out of the live workshop:
I just received this e-mail on one of my gmail accounts. It’s obviously a scam so DO NOT send your password back as a reply. I sent it right into the spam folder, so hopefully not many people will see it, but just in case …
