Workshop: using Gimp Part 2 – seamless textures

Next Friday I’ll give another live class on Gimp. Please make sure you register early, since I will delete the class one hour before starting time if there are not students registered.

Here is the link to the class.

Please log in to eduFire to see the correct time in your own time zone.

About Class

Gimp can be used to create seamless textures. A seamless texture is a picture that you can duplicate in width and height as often as you like. You will also find the expression “tile-able” texture because the picture will be tiled. If the picture is well prepared, you will not see any seams from this tiling. This works fine for backgrounds like sky, grass, sand etc. In this workshop we will also use cobblestone which needs a bit more attention if the texture shall look seamless.

Syllabus

- loading a photo from your desktop
- applying an offset to make problems visible when the picture will be tiled
- removing visible seams by using the clone tool
- removing visible seams by copying and pasting parts of the picture
- testing the tiled image
